New York Construction Accidents
- Posted on:
In a city as big as New York City, it can be impossible to get through the day without running into at least one construction zone. While these areas are usually safe to pass by, accidents can happen. If you’ve been injured due to a New York construction accident, you may have a personal injury case to pursue.
Construction workers are injured at an alarming rate. With one in every ten construction workers sustaining an injury every year, it’s important that construction zones are taking the proper precautions to ensure individuals are not injured.
Taking Steps to Improve Safety
Unfortunately, deaths in construction accidents are on the rise in New York. Fatal falls happen way too often, leaving families without their loved ones. In 2017, we saw advocates pushing for more safety within construction zones, including a bill that would increase training requirements for construction work.
The bill was unanimously approved, requiring construction site workers to undergo at least 40 hours of safety training. The bill does not go into full effect until December 2018, allowing workers to remain employed even if they haven’t completed the adequate training.
Will the Bill Help?
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to say if this bill will truly help reduce the number of accidents or deaths related to construction accidents. Although the bill has been passed, deaths continue to occur due to mistakes, carelessness, or under-trained employees.
As the bill begins to be implemented, we will see if additional training can truly change the dangers of a construction zone.
