NY Post: Held & Hines’ Sues Hotel for Starving Guests at Bat-Mitzvah

A Manhattan couple says a hotel left about 150 bat mitzvah guests so hungry that the adults resorted to raiding the kids’ ice cream, according to a lawsuit.

Mom and party host Nancy Held charges in a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit that Hotel Eventi badly botched the $37,000 birthday banquet.

Held spent years planning her daughter’s big day, especially after the mom was misdiagnosed in 2013 with a fatal genetic mutation.

The trouble at the Midtown venue began when the manager who was supposed to oversee the event left early, court papers allege.

Held planned 700 passed hors d’oeuvres — but most never made it to the guests, she claims.

The entrees of steak or scallops were then served “ice cold,” Held alleges. Those who sent their entrees back to the kitchen allegedly got a second helping that was no better.

“The adult guests at the Held Party were so hungry, as little to any desserts were being served, that many of the adults ate the kid’s ice cream,” according to court papers.

“We were starving,” Held’s husband, Marc, told The Post. “We were hosting the party and we didn’t have any food to eat.”

The hotel allegedly offered $1,000 and a night in a suite to make up for the party faux pas, Marc Held said.

Later, a friend who was also planning a party discovered Hotel Eventi was allegedly using pictures of the Held’s daughter, along with the child’s name, without permission in advertisements to prospective customers, according to the lawsuit.

The couple is seeking $637,000 in damages. The hotel declined comment on the litigation.
