Summertime Spike in Driver Negligence Distracted Driving Accidents
School’s out, graduation has commenced, and workers have requested their vacation days — it is officially Summer 2016. Young drivers and families are hitting the road along with everyone else, and with the sense of summer freedom comes with more cars in neighborhoods and highways, naturally upping the risk of collisions. The warmer weather brings out a more carefree attitude, unfortunately this also brings with it distracted drivers.
Did you know that distracted driving car accidents lead the cause of death for those in the US aged eight to 34? That’s right, these accidents contributing to car, truck, SUV and motorcycle crashes occur in frightening numbers, as distracted driving is responsible for one death every 12 to 15 minutes. In addition, these accident injure more than 2.5 million each year.

Traffic may increase, and it will come as no surprise to most summer travelers (as well as regular old commuters!) that long holiday weekends are usually made even longer by dreaded traffic, sometimes doubling the time it takes to make it to their destination or back home. Though that’s just one weekend, this is bound to continue all summer long.
As a driver, remember to stay present and focused on the task at hand — driving. Not on your passengers or cell phone. And be aware of other drivers, if you see a distracted driver notify the authorities.
